Global E-Waste Collection Rates Show Modest Improvement

Despite generating approximately 1.6 million tonnes of e-waste annually, collection rates have improved slightly but significant challenges remain.

November 2025

Global statistics show that approximately 54% of e-waste is now formally collected for recycling, representing a modest improvement from previous years.

However, this still means nearly half of all e-waste is not being properly recycled, resulting in lost valuable materials and environmental harm.

The gap between e-waste generation and formal collection represents billions of dollars in unrecovered metals and thousands of tonnes of hazardous materials entering landfills.

Industry experts emphasize the need for better consumer education, convenient collection infrastructure, and stronger enforcement of disposal regulations.
